Let there be light

Enjoy a modern family lifestyle when you move into the clean-lined Savoy 280 by Longridge Homes

Clean lines, plenty of natural light thanks to big windows and a central void, and high ceilings combine to give this easy-care family home a contemporary, liveable feel. And the sense of space those elements provide belie this two-storey home's compact footprint. Longridge Homes marketing manager Helen Lowrie says the Savoy 280 is a modern-styled home that's perfectly suited to the demands of a busy family. She says it boasts a number of design features that add to its contemporary feel, such as a curved wall at the rear of the home, complete with porthole windows.

Another clever design feature is the dropped ceiling above the kitchen. It helps to define the kitchen within the open-plan area, which includes a dining zone and living area. The kitchen comes equipped for the family, with ample storage space. "Also, the kitchen has been positioned in that area so it is easily accessed when entertaining outside," explains Helen, adding that direct access from the garage to the kitchen is a handy feature when bringing in the grocery shopping. Natural light is one of the benefits of this design, with large windows in most areas of the home. The casual living area goes one step further, featuring a large window and sliding glass door, which make up one entire wall.

"The home works really well and as soon as you walk in you have a feeling of space, especially with the 2.7m high ceilings," she says. "The void in the hallway makes an interesting design aspect and again adds to the feeling of space." A formal lounge at the front includes a wall niche for artwork, with a study located behind it.

"Having the study close to the living areas makes it accessible if parents want to monitor their kids on the computer," Helen says. Upstairs are all three bedrooms and an enormous main suite. "The main living room has a glass sliding door, giving private access to the balcony, and includes a large walk-in wardrobe and dressing room." It's the perfect escape for busy parents.
