This custom design from Longridge Homes is kid friendly with a touch of luxury for the parents

After spending more than 15 years in Melbourne the Stretch family decided it was time to return home to Adelaide. Following a successful AFL career spanning more than 200 games with the Melbourne Demons, Steve and wife Leona returned home with children Charlotte, 14 and Billy, 11.

"Steve grew up at Henley Beach and we wanted to come back to the same area so we started looking for home in the area that were suitable for a knock down and rebuild," Leona says. "We looked at a few display homes but we really like the space and clean lines of the Longridge homes. Their designs were modern and have a very contemporary feel to them. "We built a two storey home so we could make the most of the views."

After a family discussion it was decided the kids would have their bedrooms on the second level and mum and dad on the bottom. "When we lived in Melbourne it was the other way around," Leona says. "But the advantage is when we have friends over the kids can have their rooms and living area messy but no one has to see it. We keep things pretty tidy but kids will be kids and they also need to live a little as well."

A large study separates the two minor bedrooms upstairs and looks down through the second storey void. Both bedrooms have built-in wardrobes while bedroom two has access to the balcony. The study also includes a sofa bed for when friends stay over, a television and computer. "I think it is important for the children to have their own living space, whether they are playing video games or just hanging out with their friends," Leona says. "It also is the ideal place for them to do their homework." A large bathroom completes the second level design.

Entry to the home is via a porch with the main bedroom at the front. The couple enlarged their ensuite to add a touch of luxury. "We included an extra large shower with a rose fixed to the roof as well as two vanities and a dividing wall," Leona says. "It's a beautiful bathroom and it is our touch of luxury."
